William Morgan had a college buddy who invented basketball. Not to be outdone, he divided the court with a net and invented volleyball. Well, sort of. He actually invented something called Mintonette, but then changed the name after a buddy observed the game and noted that the basic objective was simply to volley the ball back and forth. Right. Volleyball. Now why didn’t he think of that?
