A couple of sailors working for Christopher Columbus back in 1492 are credited with being the first Europeans to discover tobacco. They were given a few dried-up leaves by some of the guys hanging out in the Dominican Republic, but it wasn’t until they arrived in Cuba that they actually figured out what to do with them. The Taínos Indians there showed them how to roll the leaves into a primitive looking cigar and smoke it. Care to guess what they loaded the ship with for the voyage back home?
