The word cello is actually short for violoncello, which means something like “little violin” in Italian. Not to be confused with limoncello, which, although also Italian, refers to the syrupy cordial that Italians like to sip on sunny afternoons while listening to cello music. One sounds as sweet as the other tastes. Who else but those stylish Italians could come up with such a pleasant pairing?
